Female Peer Mentor
Job Summary
The mentor will be providing peer recovery support to participants who have substance abuse disorders and are receiving intensive outpatient treatment services. Working in close partnership with counselors, Probation and Parole Officers, and community partners, the Recovery Mentor acts as a peer role model and documents the progress for each participant. The Recovery Mentor assists participants in engaging in addiction recovery activities and developing recovery support in various communities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves a diverse population effectively through management of an assigned caseload of participants while acting as a peer role modeling recovery.
- Performs random and as-needed urine drug screenings.
- Assists participants in developing a support network by introducing them to various models of recovery in the community and attending community support activities with them.
- Assesses needs of participants, connects them with applicable resources, and develops a transition plan.
- Transports participants and encourages them to develop self-sufficiency.
- Assists participants in securing housing and employment, as needed.
- Completes daily progress notes in electronic medical records system.
- Works collaboratively with community partners in a professional manner, including regular interaction with participants’ counselors and/or parole/probation officers.
- Facilitates classes and skill groups, as assigned.
- Maintains accurate and timely reports and documentation.
- Abides by organization policies and procedures, confidentiality laws, professional boundaries, peer support principles, and relevant federal/state treatment regulations and standards.
- Participates in weekly supervision and meetings, as assigned.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the minimum levels required to successfully perform the Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Certified in an Oregon State Mental Health and Addictions approved training as a Certified Recovery Mentor within 90 days of hire
- 2 years clean/sober with a verifiable program of recovery
- Free from supervision in any state
- Personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record in accordance with the Miracles Club auto liability policy requirements
- Demonstrated success at working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness
- Experience in collaborating with community partners to identify shortcomings in the organization and in building partnerships to improve outcomes
- Lived experience related to population being served, past treatment experience, preferred
- Experience setting and maintaining clear boundaries with the ability to hold others accountable with compassion
- Excellent communication, trauma-informed approach, and conflict resolution skills
- Experience with crisis prevention and intervention
- Ability to maintain high professional standards at all times with participants, staff, and community partners
- Computer literate; functional ability with Microsoft programs
- GED/High School Diploma, preferred
Working Conditions
Environment and Physical Requirements: The Recovery Mentor works in an office environment; however, the position frequently visits field locations including homes, courtrooms, recovery centers, and other indoor and outdoor locations. Those locations are subject to a variety of environmental weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, and dust. The position frequently requires daily travel by car. The Recovery Mentor interacts constantly with staff, visitors, program participants, government agencies, and others. The position stands, walks, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. The incumbent must be able to lift, push, pull, and move files and equipment in excess of 15 pounds.
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically forty hours per week with flexibility in scheduling. The Recovery Mentor also travels extensively and may be required to occasionally work extended hours including evening, weekend, and/or holiday work as job duties demand.
